Galentine's Day Cookies

February 3, 2017

Y’all know here at Soma & Ulte we are all about female empowerment and we are SO fired up and inspired by all that has been going on recently. The turn out at Women’s Marches all over the world on January 21st blew us away! We weren’t surprised but seeing all those women (and men) come together to stand up for what they believe in was so powerful to see! And we’re just getting started!! So with that and all our #WCW’s in mind we have the perfect Galentine’s Day treats in store.

These cookies are so easy to make and they turned out cute as a button! And we guarantee your girlfriends will LOVE receiving them.

To start you just need to make some basic sugar cookies. This is our recipe but if you have one you already love by all means stick with it!

3 c. all purpose flour

3/4 t. baking powder

1/4 t. salt

1 c. unsalted butter, softened

1c. sugar

1 egg, beaten

1 T. milk

Powedered sugar (for rolling out dough)

Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. Place butter and sugar in bowl of an electric mixer and beat until light in color. Add egg and milk and beat to combine. With the mixer on low speed gradually add flour mixture and beat until mixture pulls away from the side of the bowl. Divide dough in half, wrap in parchment paper, and refrigerate for 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Sprinkle surface and rolling pin with powdered sugar. Using one wrapped pack of dough at a time roll out dough to 1/4″ thick. Cut cookies using heart shaped cookie cutter. Place on parchment lined cookie sheet 1″ apart and bake for 7-9 minutes, or until edges are just beginning to brown.

Now for the fun part!! Roll out your fondant (we used this kind. Its the perfect hot pink color) to 1/8″ thickness. Use the same cookie cutters to cut your fondant into heart shapes. Using a cookie stamp, stamp any word, saying, phrase, or name your little heart desires! Once your fondant is all stamped out use a clean paint brush to brush a little water on the back. This will make the fondant stick to the cookie.

We know y’all will have so much fun making (and eating) these! And we would LOVE to see what y’all write on your cookies so please show us! Tag #somaandulte

Happy baking! And GO GIRL POWER!!
