Thanksgiving Day Football and Snacks

November 18, 2016

There are those that come Thanksgiving day are in the kitchen starting at sun up and preparing food all day long, and there are those that are in front of the tv watching NFL all day long. No matter which one you are this post is for you! This is all about the snacks to hold you over (or to keep the extra cooks out of the kitchen). Since this day is all about eating its best to keep the “game snacks” simple. Here we have three go tos that will take you no time to make but keep your guests happy.

First on the menu is a charcuterie plate. If you ask us no spread is complete without a charcuterie plate

You can really do anything you want here, we used two types of cheese including Humboldt Fog which is my very favorite! We got prosciutto and salami for our meat and used grapes, blackberries, and persimmons for the fruit.

The next item we chose is a variety of crostinis which is just as easy to change to your liking

For our crostinis we used fresh bread we’d just made but you can use any type you like. One of the kinds we made with hummus and olive tapenade. We did another one with fig jam, goat cheese, and prosciutto, and the last kind is sooo yummy, we used ricotta cheese with maple bacon jam!!

And last but not least is a recipe for sugar and spiced nuts that I have made regularly since I found the recipe. And they are a hit everywhere I take them and with anyone I give them to.

Sugar & Spiced Nuts

3/4 c. sugar

1 T. kosher salt

1 T. chile powder

2 t. cinnamon

2 t. cayenne pepper

1 large egg white

2 c. raw cashews (9 oz)

2 c. raw almonds (9 oz)

Preheat oven to 300. Coat a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray. In a small bowl whisk the sugar with the salt, chile powder, cinnamon and cayenne pepper. In a large bowl beat the egg white until frothy. Add the cashews, almonds and spiced sugar and toss. Be sure to coat all the nuts. Spread out the nuts on the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 45 mins, stirring once, until browned. Let the nuts cool and enjoy!

There ya go! Yummy simple foods to hold you over til the Thanksgiving feast begins!
