The Miracle Tonic Your Body Needs Now

If you're anything like me you're constantly looking for the latest and greatest recipes that guarantees you'll be stronger, have more energy, get glowing skin, and of course drop the bloat and 10 pounds. And if you're anything like me you've discovered most of these to be BS. So I do not bring this golden milk recipe to you lightly. I've heard of golden milk for a while now and just hadn't taken the time to try it. But when our color of the week was bright yellow I knew now was the time to give it a try. I was thrilled to find out it was simple to make, actually tastes good, and IT WORKS!! Golden milk is said to build your immunity, relieve digestive problems, clarify your skin, and even works as a headache reliever (among lots of other things)! There are quite a few recipes for golden milk out there but this is the one we used. I know a lot of them call for turmeric root and ginger root (which I'm all for) but I knew using the powdered spices meant I would be more likely to make it and make it often.

 

- 2 cups almond milk

- 2 to 3 Tablespoons maple syrup (or whatever your favorite sweetener is)

- 1 Teaspoon turmeric 

- 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract

- 1/2 Teaspoon ground cinnamon

- 1/4 Teaspoon ground ginger

- pinch of black pepper

 

Heat almond milk in a small saucepan over medium-high heat until it begins simmering (not boiling).  Add in the remaining ingredients, and whisk for a minute or so until everything is combined and smooth, and the spices are completely dissolved.  Taste and add in extra sweetener if needed.

 

Serve immediately if you want to drink it hot.  Or let the milk cool to room temperature, then refrigerate in a sealed container (will last for up to 3 days.) You can either reheat it then, or serve it chilled over ice. Given that we're smack dab in the middle of summer we opted for chilled.

 

 And storing it in a sealed container makes it perfect for on the go!

Okay, now for the reason I'm sold on this drink. After we made this drink and shot the photos; June and I were on the computer uploading all the images and working on this post. Then out of NOWHERE I turned my head and got that shooting hot pain down my neck and back. Do y'all know the feeling I'm talking about? It's the worst! With my inability to turn my head I laid on an ice pack (hello grandma!) and drank the rest of the golden milk (because I remembered turmeric is a natural anti-inflammitory). I'm not kidding y'all, within the hour my neck felt fine and I could turn my head with no pain at all!! I have a hard time sleeping and always seem to sleep in a position that my neck doesn't agree with so I'm all too familiar with this pain in the neck. And never ever has it disappeared so quickly!! With all the benefits this drink promises; it's probably a good idea to drink it on the reg. But if you're not up for that please give it a try if you have a similar muscle incident. I hope it'll work as quickly for you as it did for me!
