Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh my goodness. Tacos. I love them so much that Connie had them specially catered at my bridal shower, and now that I've discovered one of West LA's best kept secrets, it is now a regular friday date night activity for me and my husband. Actually, not even friday... taco tuesday, wednesday, thursday, and any part of the week that ends in 'day.'
Funny enough, I used to say that I hate Mexican food. However, I grew up in the burbs of northern VA and the closest thing to Mexican food was whatever Taco Bell offered. I had no idea there was a difference! Then I moved to California and my food life changed. Everywhere I went there was a taco stand or truck and there was no avoiding it. I had to give it a chance... and ever since then, I fell in love. There is so much flavor packed in such a tiny punch. I'm drooling just writing this!
So let me tell you where we go for my favorite tacos. If you hit up the intersection of Santa Monica Blvd and Westwood Blvd on any given day, you will see this truck right here:
Most likely, you'll also see my husband ordering for us (as seen in this photo). This day was particularly hilarious because we went to a really swanky spot for our Anniversary dinner and then came home, looked at each other, got back in the car and went straight to tacos because we were not satisfied lol.
I don't even know the exact hours, but I'm pretty sure they open up around 9am and close around 2am. Don't quote me, though! They're usually jam-packed for lunch and dinner so be prepared to chill for a bit if you hit foodie rush hour. However, they're super fast and absolutely worth the wait. It's also super cheap to boot! Usually Jace and I will order 7 tacos and itll be just a little over $12. They have a fixins bar to add your usual chopped onions, cilantro, cucumbers, radishes, and a variety of salsas. They also give you grilled onions, refried beans, and jalapenos FOR FREE if you ask. It's nuts that for that cheap we can easily get a delicious, fresh, and super filling meal.
Ok, so what to order. I mean, everything is awesome. For something unusual I'd recommend the tripas. Don't ask what it is, though, cuz you might be grossed out, but it's soooo yummy to me. For something traditional, I'd recommend the asada (steak). My husband usually loves chicken everything, but he even prefers the steak over that because it's that delicious. However, he still always gets the pollo cuz we want all the things. They're breakfast burrito is apparently to die for, but I've personally never had it. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if it was. For drinks, I'm a huge fan of their gigantic super gulp sized Horchata!
So if you find yourself in West LA at any point, you should give this little truck a visit. You'll probably see me there!
